A beehive monitor helps beekeepers help their bees
The Eyesonhives Scout B beehive monitor is the easiest way to monitor your hive, view your bees remotely and keep an eye on your hive’s health.
Eyesonhives is inspired by the emerging field of remote healthcare, and has a mission to support the transition to sustainable agriculture. Beekeepers and researchers can benefit from the ability to remotely assess beehives with their own eyes, and save time with automatically quantified bee activity and trends.
Designed for citizen scientists and researchers who want a better future for bees
Eyesonhives is focused on making it very easy to monitor bees, easy for you, and easy on the bees. The system does not disturb or require modifications to the hive, and is easy to set up. Simply place the device two feet away from the hive and point at the hive entrance. The device runs from a USB power source (e.g. solar or mains) and transmits data via WiFi (or cellular hotspot).
Check your hive from anywhere
You’ll be able to check in on your hive from anywhere. You can see what your bees have been up to, conduct your own experiments and get measurable results. Imagine being able to measure the rate of your bees’ spring build up, observe trends, and see an alert if your hive swarms!
The Eyesonhives Platform displays colony activity patterns tracked over time, as well as a daily highlight reel of videos. Hours of video is automatically translated into an easy to understand, visual, real-time summary for beekeepers.
Eyesonhives uses a camera and computer to visually monitor what goes on at the bee hive all day, every day. Activity is measured by tracking the number of flying bees.
Colony activity patterns are tracked over time using computerized video analysis. Hours of video is automatically translated into an easy to understand, visual, real-time summary for beekeepers.
A key insight is that it’s not just the ‘count’ of individual bees that matters, it’s their flight behavior. Eyesonhives doesn’t just look at bees, it measures flight behavior of the hive as a superorganism!
The Data Analytics subscription
The Data Analytics subscription includes the web app data visualization, alerts and video storage. It’s the best part of Eyesonhives – you can see the growth trends of your hive, better understand your hive’s health and see daily data and video highlights from your hive. It also includes access to our online community where you can see other hives on the platform!
Bee activity data is backed up and accessible from anywhere via the Eyesonhives Platform. Researchers can export their own data for further analysis, or license Citizen Science datasets.
Setup is easy
Requires Power and WiFi. The system uses WiFi to communicate alerts, upload video, and report trending data. Setup requires access to 120V power or a 5V 2A USB source (e.g. solar power) and a usable WiFi signal at the hive.

Product works as advertised. Set up was easy. The videos are very clear and Kelton’s support is timely and excellent

These cameras work great for warning of swarms and capturing them on video, as well as general hive activity on any given day. I like the time lapse feature within the app, and the charts and graphs. System support is superb in every aspect.

Eyesonhives technology helps me keep an eye (pun intended) of my hive remotely. It helps me monitor the hive for pests ( eg. ants), learn more about orientation flight patterns, swarming behavior, and weather biometrics (wind and temperature). Showing the video clips on my iPhone to other people makes for great conversations about the importance of the honey bee. The tech support is excellent.
